63 Lark disc brake question

I am doing the front disc brakes on a 63 Lark (R2). On the steering knuckle at the end it has a slot. Is a key or keep supposed to be tapped in there after the disc are on but prior the the hex nut going on? The shop manual does not show. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

There is a keyed washer that fits between the bearing and the nut.
