  • Need NAPA part number for '65 disk brake M/C

I called NAPA today looking for a master cylinder repair kit for a '65 Commander with power disk brakes (single cylinder). The guy on the phone claimed they had no old catalogs to figure out the United kit number. The Stude part number is 1558183, consisting of a piston and a cup, fits '63-66 cars. Anyone know what the NAPA/United kit number is?

I tried the Rock Auto on-line catalog but they don't show any master cylinders or kits at all. Strange!

I know I can easily call one of the Stude parts vendors but I wanted instant gratification.

I haven't been able to find a MC or kit for the 63-66 disc brake cars outside of our vendors. That doesn't mean they don't exist, I just can't find one.

The kit is only $20 from our vendors

What Dick said. Rebuild kits for single-piston master cylinders are going to be around $20 anywhere for anything nowadays, if not more, so just buy one from one of our vendors. BP

Went to NAPA yesterday and thier books don't show Studebaker after 1964. The kit they show for 63-64 is for the dual m/c. I'm looking for a kit for Baby so she will be ready the 4th. Wish me luck!

Toss the single and install a dual master.

Dave Thibeault is putting a dual master cylinder kit in the mail for me today. I'd go get it but it's about 80 miles to his house and I have to go to work today - in the opposite direction. Having the dual master cylinder is probably the best thing to do anyway, rather than rebuild my old single unit. I just have to get it done before the zone meet in 10 days.

Good call. You can use the stock single as a wheel chock.
