  • 57 vs. 58

    how come there are more 58's at shows than 57's.i like the 57 better my first car. and was there more 57 made than 58's? how about the commanders scotman's,champions? my first car was a1957 2-door sedan,with a 259 and 3=speed.commander.put a floor shift(fenton) a j.c.whitney cam and a 4-barrel with intake from the junk yard.

      I guess it depends on which SDC Zone Meet or International Meet you go to! There are usually plenty of both actually. Some local events and non-Stude. ones vary a lot by location.

      But my only guess is if you are seeing more '58's it has to be because they did build Starlight Sedan Hardtops in '58, and people are beginning to really like the formerly...unpopular, let's just say "UNUSUAL" models now-days! The sweptback roofline really is quite beautiful. I have never seen many '58 Silver and Golden Hawks show up, as they really ARE very rare and so very few were built.

        As Rich said, it depends on the area and Studebaker population. Are you only considering shows local (within 150 miles) to your area, then you are only drawing from that finite population of Studebakers.
        I have owned three 1957s and only one 1958.

            I'd LOVE to give you an answer as to what the sedan/wagon production numbers were,
            but there are two reasons I can't/won't right now~
            • The books I'd need are packed up
            • I'm not done packing up... [:0] [B)] [V]
            (Yes- I am still moving THIS weekend!!!)
