  • Question for the rodders

Oddly enough, the Studebaker truck drive shaft is the correct length if I can install the GM TH 400 transmission yoke on the shaft. I need a Universal joint that is Studebaker mechanics on one end and Saginaw on the other, any leads ?.

Your probably going to have to have a saginaw yoke installed on your driveshaft.

      Greetings, JDP,

Check with a good driveline shop or 4WD shop. There used to be some u-joints made just for odd-swaps. They came with GM on one axis and Spicer on the other. That way, didn't have to change the driveshaft.

      thnx, jv.

        JDP,
My '62 has one of those joints.
It has the orig drive shaft on one end and a 700R4 on the other.
It was on the car when I bought it. I'm going thru the documentation that came with the car and found a bill dated May, 2004 from "Suwanee Valley Rebuilders", 1350 E. Duval St., Lake city, Fl 32055 (386) 752- 8580.
        It is for a 3-3130 U-joint at $34.07 and labor at $15 for a total of $49.07.
I'm pretty sure this is the bill for that joint. It might be worth a call to them and state your case.
I certainly hope this is the one, as I would like to repay you guys for all the help you have given me.

Any good local machine shop will have the know how to get you going..just give them the spline count/parts that you need to link..My local here made the switch over for me no probs..just tell them what your up to..they will take it from there..

Sounds like you just need a 'combo' u-joint.
(2 big caps, and two small caps, with the trunion larger for the GM side.
Give Summit Racing a call. They do this all the time.
Just tell them you have a Ford driveshaft with a Turbo 400 yoke.
              They'll know right away.
Here's one I 'think' might work:
