  • 64 Commander Grille Conversion

Just curious. I just received a 64 Commander-type grille from SASCO for $25. It's beautiful!
Has anybody converted one to a four-headlight version? It looks like it would be pretty simple - just a couple of cuts.

I'm probably going to convert the one I have, I'm just working up the courage to cut a perfectly good NOS grille.

I have a feeling if it works that there will be a run on the 2 headlight grilles left at SASCO!

I bought one of those last year and I cut it to fit my '64 Daytona. never would tell unless you took the headlite bezels off.

          2R5,

Did you keep a piece at the top in order to make a tab for the innermost screw on the bezel? That's what I was planning...

Do not be afraid to cut up a NOS single headlight grill. I can personally say I saw (WITHOUT exaggeration) aprox.500 NOS single headlight grills, if not more @ SASCO Friday. If you are thinking about ordering one,or anything else, stop thinking and do it.

Yes I did keep a tab for the screw ...make it as close as you can to your old quad headlite one. You can even cut slots in the bottom for the bezel to hook into . I cut mine with a diegrinder

NO! The 2 headlamp grilles used on '64 Challengers and Commanders loook much better than the 4 headlamp units.

                  Hmm.

Since my ugly "what if" champ project is lacking a grille I should email Sasco and join that "run" on 64 two headlight grilles

Say... anyone out in the midwest have any front end body parts for 64/65s with single headlights in their back yards. I've got fenders, hood and a lower valance but need grille brackets and a header panel to name a few

I did the deed over the long weekend - I cut up my Commander grille and made it a four-headlight unit. I'll post the process and pictures in the Tech Forum soon.

Hey Scott, I'll be looking for it, as over the years I've picked up 4 of these NOS single-headlamp grilles.
Never did anything , 'cause I didn't want to 'screw 'em up' (been waiting for someone else to.

I had considered converting to single lamps, but that requires either changing out the entire fenders, or drilling out buzuko spotwelds to install single H-L buckets at additional $$$, certainly not the CASO way of doing things.

I can now personally attest that there are PLENTY of single headlight grilles at SASCO. They were EVERYWHERE.
