just curious.....

was a backup light an option on a 1950 Champion? is the correct placement between the fender joint and the trunk? After looking at many photos on the 'net, I see backup lights in various places... even dual lights..... what would be correct?

Yes, AC-1885, and the kit with only one light is AC-1886. I wondered why anyone would pay extra for back-up lights, then get only one. Fred Fox explained in his Feb. 2001 TW article; because the name script 'Land Cruiser' was installed where the right backup light would be.
They do mount on the panel as you said, about 7" up from the bottom. If wired as per instructions in the kit, they get power from the tail light wiring.

Hey Bob,
The lights are operated by a switch mouted to the steering wheel shaft and actuated by the reverse shift lever. I wired mine from the battery power lug on the ignition switch, through a fuse, the steering column switch and back to the two backup lights. I tried to post photos but
I'm still batting under .500 in doing that.

Instructions and templates for drilling are available through the SDC keeper of the templates and instructions. Someone here refresh my memory. Is that Dave Mottle?

I don't know that Brian is the Stude librarian. Last I knew, it was Dave Mottle in New Mexico.
If you write to him for info, you need to send at least postage as his works aren't funded by SDC.:)
