  • Restoring the face of gages

A while back there was an article of someone who restored the face of the gages of an old car.
I don't know if it was here or in the Turning Wheels.
I have not been able to locate that article.
Does anyone remember where it was?
    Thanks
    Paul

No, but there is a place in Riverside California called Universal Speedometer that does an excellent job. They even update gauges with 12 volts and higher speedo numbers. They recalibrated my speedo for a speeding ticket I got. Also, I make and sell gauge glass stickers for r-series (early) trucks and earlier pass cars.

You're right, Paul. It was more than a handful of months ago, but someone posted a thread of how they re-did their guages with pics and great directions. Sorry, that's all I remember. Maybe more searching....

Go back to the SDC home page, and go to tech tips. It is the first subject. It is also very well done.

Gary Ash does them for Ms. Might be the one to talk to.

I have water-slide decals for the M truck gauges (same as '41 cars), the 1941 cream-and-gold clock glass, and I could do the white-on-black gauge faces for the early 2R trucks with Type A instruments.

The gauge/gage thread may have been one I did. I need to add several pics to it but haven't gotten back to it. Let me know what needs clarified. I'm by no means expert, just trying to share what worked for me since so many here have helped me out.

Paul, The decals Gary Ash has are of high quality and makes a hard job easy. I have a picture of my cluster I've finished with Gary's decals. He may be able to do those in either gold tone or black.

BTW I installed VDO 12v instruments in my cluster.

In the 30 President feature in TW earlier this year, I restored the guages in my grandfather's 30 President using photoshop. While it wasn't outlined step-by-step it gave a summary of what was done. The gauages turned out to be great & everybody thinks my grandpa paid hundreds of dollars to have them done by a "professional" when he only paid less than $20!!! (Of course I didn't charge him for my labor)
