  • balance of v-8 stude

is the studebaker v-8 balanced interlly or exterlly? how about the 6-cylinder? and which is better for the engines i usually have all rotating pieces balanced.

also is there an machine shop thats knows how too machine older engines the way the customer wants in ne ga?

They are internally balanced and if the shop does not know how to balance it, RUN.

What's the difference between older and newer?

They all have pistons, rods, wristpins, rings, crank shafts...you see where I'm going..

Single or V12, they all need a balanced rotating assembly.

FWIW, both are internally balanced, and that is always better. There is no difference in the techniques of balancing. Older, newer, doesn't work any differently.

Again, automotive machining is automotive machining. They either know how or they don't. They're small enough and interested enough to listen to you and write it down or they aren't. There is nothing different about machining a Stude V8 or 6-cyl. What is your particular concern?

Why? Racing? Changing pistons rods? What?
Internally balanced. Should be able to use
gram scales if replacing parts, and not for
          racing.

Tex is correct in that static balance of the piston/rod can be achieved on the bench with a gram scale. This is better than doing nothing. However, IMHO, the extra $100 for having the crankshaft dynamically balanced to that rod/piston assembly is well-spent, even for a CASO who only drives on the street.
