  • New inane Avanti resto question

I know this is getting crazy, but..................

On the Avanti door jambs, the button switch that controls the Courtesy lights. I've seen the buttons come in both metal and black plastic.

Question is, which is correct for a '63 Avanti? Also the available repros do not have the original barrel shaped mounting plate. Any source for those?

Avanti switches are unique because they are not self grounding like the ones on metal bodied cars. If you have the original switches and they don't work try spraying wd 40 in there and working the button. I got both mine working that way.

Well, one 'may' be original, the other is definitely from a Corvette. Just trying to find out what is 'correct' for the '63.....metal or black plastic button.

Someone has been liquidating quite a few NOS Avanti parts on Ebay as of lately.

I suggest you ask them if they have any plates available for purchase.

I was am looking for a few thing for my Avanti project and inquired through one of their listing, and they told me they had most of what I was looking for.

Here's a link to their current auctions:

I know of he, and I find this highly odd:

Who here knows Dan of Nostalgic Motor Cars? He advertises on the directory page and TW.
For those who are new to the Studebaker world, a few years back(and many years prior) he would bring a trailer to SB as well as many other meets with displays of the parts on fabric backed board he sold. He has a real storehouse chock full of Avanti parts, and had an upstanding reputation. If you need an Avanti part, there's a shot he might have it, and he will be able to tell you what you need(notwithstanding the switches). He's a longtime Avanti vendor that maintains his business but doesn't get to the SB meet much these days. I can surmise what's happening here(age most likely a factor), but I hope not, he's extraordinarily well endowed with knowledge and a great parts supplier with the Avanti folk.

This style of switches are easy to take apart, clean, re-lube, and re-position the sliding contacts for better contact. As I recall, the inards of a grounded switch will interchange with that of the non-grounded Avanti ones.

Anyone have a NAPA number for this door jam switch, with either of the plungers?
