  • need to know how close to last 66 cruiser!!!!

I have one of the last 66 cruisers made and need help finding out how close it is to the end, it was the last one sold at Ben Begier Studebaker in San Leandro, Ca. This one is about to be parted out because of storage problems with the city, I have tried to sell on E-Bay twice but no takers, the floors are so clean you can eat off them, the engine , trans, and interior are gone, the dash is perfect, along with the rest of the body except the paint, it has power steering and brakes, flanged rear end, good bumpers, glass, front grille ect. the only thing that will keep it from being parted will be how close it was to the last. the vin number is C531455 if any one can help please let me know , thanks ..Bob

I've seen this car several times, and it is a GEM! [].

BTW, the ultra low mileage '62 I owned was also from Ben Begier...

According to Art Unger's 2002 TW article on 65/66 Hamilton production, the last serial V8 was C534654. However, it is the "Line #" which provides a more accurate picture of how close the car was to the end of production. Last Line number is given as 8935.

A copy of your production order ought to have it on there (mine do)

I sure wish I had somewhere to put that car of yours...

StudeDave I just looked on my 64 GT order and I see where there is a line number, but on the 66 I don't have one and this point in time don't plan on spending the money to get one so guess it will just go away, thanks ...Bob

              Hi Bob,
it is a shame to part out such a good car, and especially those 66's They are the best of what Studebaker could do with a Lark. Even though I hate to say it, those Chev V8s make them a lot nicer in the front end than the boat anchor Studebaker used.

Like anything you will get more for it in parts so do what you have to do.

              Regards
              Greg

Greg, are you coming to Iowa? Ian will be here on the 7th of July and driving back with me, ya the 66 is a nice car I have a use for all the parts on it , I plan on using the hood and trunk on my 64 Daytona ht, along with the grille, bumpers, tail lights and some of the trim work, turning my 64 daytona into a 66 hardtop and using my 350 hp 327 chevy with duel fours and a 4 speed and have a 66 2 door hardtop just like they should have made, a get up and kick ass car, and will keep the steering and brakes and frame off the 66 then cut the floors out for something in the future...Bob

A fellow dropped by here yesterday with a really sweeeet, all-original '66 cruiser with 283, a/c, p/s, p/disc brakes & vinyl roof ; only 39K mi., & not a bit rust. It would make a great driver with a new paint job, which would be e-z. Any idea of what it would be worth. I'd say about $4K as-is.
PS- Bob, have you changed your email or did you just miss my email yesterday?

I has been on E-bay a few times and no action , Ian Mackellar knows and has seen this car a few times, he also states there is not much call for 4 doors over there with the cost of shipping and everything else, this car is really worth more as a parts car than the whole car even as nice as the body is, if you know some one over there that might want it I would sell it for $1000.00 but it is worth about $2000.00 in parts, thanks for your interest...Bob

                            Hi Bob,
it will be a great car when you finish the 64 Daytona Hardtop as a 66. I am surprised I have not seen someone do this before.

I wont be in Iowa. I floated into the Pa meet by hitching a ride down from Hamilton Ontario in a 63 wagonaire last time when visiting the wifes mother in Toronto. I had 3 weeks off and there is only so much family stuff one can take when there is a big Stude meet on nearby. Pa was such a large sales area for Studes.

You know I was wondering if I hadnt spoken to you in 1993 when I was staying with Gay Wittenburg in SF. Gay put me in touch with a guy who new of all the Lark convertibles that were around the Frisco area. Whoever he was he rattled off at least 10 of them and mentioned one in Galt - 62 Daytona which I ended up buying. Dianne Glue drove me out to look at it. Was that you ?? You seem to have your ears to the ground out there.

                            Regards
                            Greg

I havent done to much to my cars of late. I did the brakes on my 37 Dictator and got the 39 Pckard super 8 7 passenger registered on Tuesday, but it is running rough again from a sticking valve and not having been driven. Went to take my 63 hardtop to work today but it had a bat flatery, so I will address that on the weekend.

In May I am planning on taking our 37 to Holland for the 10 years aniversary Dutch meet.

that would be a great car for $1K but it'd be a $3K plus car by the time it got here and I'd still need to find a drivetrain...
