Bolts and washers

The section of sheet metal that sits under the front of the hood just behind the bullet, on which the latch is mounted may have came from the factory with washers on the bolts that hold it on. The holes in the metal are large and oval and even flared head bolts will not cover the holes completely. I do not like the looks of washers in this area. I may use 3/8" flare head bolts if they are large enough to cover the oval holes without the use of washers.

Does anyone know if all the 50 Studebaker cars had washers on the bolts in this area?

The two cars that I had did not have any washers covering the oval holes. I've been thinking of washers to cover the holes also, now that the engine is back in my car (rebuilt engine two weeks ago). Paul

My chassis parts catalog shows 12 flat washers and 12 lock washers on the air deflector.

I believe these bolts have a sort of captive washer on them.

Yup! That looks like what I recall. Gots those squarish washers with the little teeth on each corner. "Captive" in that they don't come off the bolt.
