Not an R2, but worth saving, for sure. I may already know of a home for it. It turned SO easy when I put a socket to the crank bolt!

I also got the instrument cluster, the 6V wiper motor, the radiator and some other odd bits and pieces. I'll be getting the steering column/sector - front axle and rear as well - maybe the whole frame.

Too bad those 2R trucks did not have door visors, or I'd ask you to grab the passenger side one!

Looking at your transmission, Bob, brought to mind my situation with Bess. Would it be possible to swap parts between the '56 trannys and the '52? They're all the same model of OD tranny.

                    Clunk,

I'm not sure about the input shaft interchange, but it is a T-86.

I got the engine set on my truck frame engine dolly this evening and blew all the dust and cobwebs off of it. I set about removing all the plugs so I could run some oil in each cylinder, but the plugs were finger-tight and it was obvious that someone had oiled the cylinders in past years.
Although the truck's owner told me it had been the 60s since it was run, a check of the glovebox revealed that it was registered in the late 70s. Either way, it turns over SO smoothly. I'm betting it's gonna roar when I try to start it tomorrow.

That tranny won't be the same as a cars . Bob is correct that the input shaft is different .

Well, several things collaborated in keeping me from hearing this engine run yesterday.
Primary among them was a problem with the starter itself. I thought it looked kinda funny (the starter, that is) the way the brush cover appeared to be slid back a bit, but I didn't really look CLOSE until I was hooking a cable to it's main electrical terminal - the threads of which were half-stripped. With persistence, I got the cable on and snugged up and set about connecting the rest of the cables associated with the start circuit.
In a moment of anxious exuberence, I tapped the other end of the starter's cable on the negative post of the battery. Instead of being rewarded with the starter's jumping to life, there was HEAVY snapping and sparking at the battery terminal. Not that I didn't expect some sparks - but not like this!
Several more tries and it was obvious that something was amiss. I took a screwdriver and loosened the brush cover enough to slide it off the end of the starter and at least PART of the problem was readily evident. All four of the starter's brushes were out of their guides and consequently providing dead shorts for the starter's electrical innards!
I removed the starter and took it apart. The thing looks new inside. Obviously new bendix on the business end and the commutator looks like it's never had brushes run on it. What was odd was the handful of clean, white sand that was inside the case. Only thing I can figure it someone had been doing some sandblasting and some sand found it's way into the starter.
I would have had the whole thing back together and on the engine but for a phone call that had me scrambling to remove a pair of seats from a '61 Cruiser so they could take a trip to Texas. By the time I got them out, loaded them into my Stude truck and carried them ten miles to meet up with their "transport", my knee was hurting too much for me to get back on the engine run adventure. Besides that, it was starting to rain and so I retired for the day.
Besides that, the wife had just juiced a big basket of fresh oranges and my bottle of Vodka was whimpering for a chance to play with some of the citrus fluids! Certainly couldn't ignore that sorta thing!
