Pat Musta and I went up to Cleveland yesterday to see Jim Kranak. We had a great visit with him. He is receiving excellent care in the VA Hospital and continues to improve. He no longer has the feeding tube and is eating solid food. He was wolfing down his lunch (spaghetti) when we arrived.
He gets therapy three times a day, and yesterday was excited because he had been able to take 18 steps between the parallel bars. He still has
no use of his left arm, but can move his thumb and index finger slightly. We were amazed how well he can maneuver around the hospital in his wheelchair using only his right arm and right leg (and his left foot a little.) We followed him down the hall to the lounge and visited, and later when down to the food court on the first floor and had coffee. He still has the halo brace on his neck, but expects to get it off any day. His left eye is still being treated for the infection. Please keep those cards coming. He said he has been receiving cards from Studebaker people from all over the country (thanks, Dusty) and has gotten so many from the Ohio Chapter that he thinks he should join it!
You can also call him (he sounds great on the phone; you'd never know that there is anything wrong with him.) Best time to call is after 5:00.
He has the framed photo of his car (and Denzel's) that Jim Bradley sent him on the night stand next to his bed. He said that people ask him if that's a Mercedes. He straightens them out about that. He was excited to get the stamp poster; said he had been asking in every post office
he went into if they had one. Jim has a long way to go, but he has also come a very long way. Pat and I were very glad that we went to see
him and pleased that he was much better than we expected.
