  • AM-FM Radio wiring question

    I have a AM-FM radio, Delco AC 3500

I need to know what the wires on the back connect to, green, brown and black. The three terminal connector has been cut. I want to test it.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

My '63 AM Delco/Studebaker Push Button Radio has a Black and a Green to the speaker, and a White with Green Trace to the fuse holder for power, but I would never guess on a AM/FM. [B)]

I really need the color code from the FM it is different than AM on the wiring diagram and Rays scan does not show colors.
        Thanks,

Most probably: brown = power, connect to "ACC" on ignition switch via an in-line fuse holder; green = speaker, and should be a 10-ohm speaker, and black is the ground return for the speaker.

You can remove the top of the radio and trace the wires pretty easy. The speaker will connect to one of the terminals on the output transformer, which is that device on the far left of the picture. The wire might go first to a terminal strip or tie point, and from there to the transformer. The power wire will probably go to an RF choke, which will be a small tight cylindrical coil of pretty much the same wire, and thence to the switch on the rear of the volume control. The remaining wire will be ground, and it likely will go to a trace on the circuit board that is in turn grounded to the case by one of the board mounting screws.

            Gord,

You are amazing. I read your many posts and marvel at the level of detail you can put into them. Your powers of recall are tremendous!!
