  • T-10 Trans gear ratio change

Early T-10 Trans has a 2.20 1st gear .......Do you have to change all the gears in the trans to get a 2.54 1st gear ?.......OR...to put it another way......Are there any gears that DO NOT have to be changed ?

I had to change the Cluster, input, and second gear.

The 2.20 cluster tooth count was: 28-23-20-17

The 2.54 cluster tooth count was: 30-23-19-17

    2.20 input was 27

    2.54 input was 25

    2.20 second was 32

    2.54 second was 30

Thanks Ted .....Will Chevy cluster and 2nd gears work ?...I know the input is longer.

The Chevy input will not work, as you say, unless you come up with a longer pilot bearing since the Chevy is shorter. As far as I know, the other Chevy gears with correct tooth count would work.

You could also: A) buy the later (Ford style) Stude T-10 and swap the guts to your chevy style case.
B)buy the later (Ford style) Stude T-10 and matching bell housing and install both as a set. AFTER dial indicating the bellhousing as per the Shop Manual.
I'm going the other way. Swapping my 2.54:1 gears for a 2.20:1 set at rebuild time.
