Sand blasting the 37 CE hood.

I need to remove the moldings so that I can sandblast the hood.
The hood itself is in good shape.
The inside cross members and side braces are rusting.
I want to sandblast both sides.
I took off all of the 3/8 nuts and four screws at the back of the hood.
It appears the molding is welded to the rear cross member, do I need to cut this?
Anything else to do before I can remove the moulding and blast?

Be very careful blasting that hood! Go fast, and let it cool between passes. If it warps, you are done for.

As whacker said, I had my cab blasted, by a pro. The roof ended up warped, and the body man made much mooola fixin it.

No to sandblasting. Soda blasting or glass bead. No sandblasting. I had a 53 Dodge truck (thick metal) with some paint chips in the door, so I thought I'd sandblast the rust out. I just had a little bitty compressor, putting out about 90 pounds. I ended up with bumps everywhere I sandblasted that were raised about 1/8". Did I mention "NO" to sandblasting??

Look for a redi-strip near you. They will dip it for you. I found two within an hour of me and neither is listed in the phonebook so ask around. Steve

I understand the problem with blasting and know how to do it.
The question is how can I remove the moldings.

Paul,
The moulding is NOT welded to the hood...
I can send you pic's if that will help you...
Are you talking about the trim strip behind the nose bra cast piece?
Or are you talking about the two vent louver side pieces?
Also.. Sandblasting big flat panels is asking for warping....
If you do sandblast...stay well off the surface and don't stay in one spot very long....
I would do everything with a coarse pad and a DA or disc sander first..... Then carefully blast the cruddy areas...

Hi Jeff
I was trying to get the slats and trim off to be able blast and not ruin the stainless.
Just like picture #3 in repaint of your web site.
In addition on one of the hoods the inside reinforcing metal needs to be blasted from both sides.
Otherwise the hood is in good condition.
On large flat pieces like doors, hoods, and trunk lids I remove the paint with paint stripper and slightly go over it with sandblaster.
