Since there seems to be alot of interest in the 58 sedan/wagon offerings of late, here's a memorial collection of body tags. RIP

There are some quite rare cars in there Bob!

2 Packard Hardtops, a Packard Sedan, a Scotsman 2 Dr. Wagon (the 84th body no less!), a Silver Hawk 6 and rarest of all, a Champion 2 dr. Sedan! [:p]

May they rest in peace. :(

Yeah, you're right, Rich. I slipped a 6cyl Silver Hawk in there just to make it an even 10 tags.

I didn't think about it before, but in keeping with the way 58 went, it's only the Scotsman tags that have 4-digit body numbers![B)]

:)[:0] Actually, Bob, there will be some four-digit body tags for each of the following models, which sold over 1000 copies apiece during the 1958 model year:

58G F1
58G W1
58G D1

58G Y1
58G W4
58G F4
58G C3

58B W4
58B J4
58B P4

58H C3
58H Y6
58H J6

True enough, Bob, but my comment was weighted towards the actual dearth of overall sales in '58. Some of those you've listed just barely made the 4-digit range. It would've likely been the end of the road had not the Scotsmans done something.[B)]

:) To be sure, Bob. I just didn't want a newbie down the road to take the earlier post at face value and assume [b]only Scotsmans sold over 1,000 units per body style in 1958. :DBP

The lowest numbered tag I have is for a '54, I think. It's number 60. I also have one or two numbered 62. I DO HAVE a '64V-F2 tag that's number 101. That would be the first body of that style welded up at South Bend in 1964. At some point in the late 50s, they started using number 101 for the start of body sequence numbers.

I was talking with Fred Fox this morning and he can't recall what year that started either.

ST2DE5, I'm certain there's no body numbers that start with a zero. If it looks like there's a zero there, it could be another digit that's poorly embossed.

Matthew, yours would be a 58B of course.;)

Jim,

You still have that other rough 58 Packard out at your "yard"? Do you know if that partially reworked one in Cotton Center (the hardtop) has ever found a home?

So. It's still sitting there.:( Wish he'd come up with a price that made sense for the condition it's in. That car deserves a better fate.
