  • Door handle gasket

I'm getting ready to replace the door handles on the 63 Hawk and notice that there is a black hard rubber gasket between the handle and the door. Looked this up in the parts book but did not find any reference to it. Is this gasket original to the car or is it something the PO installed. If it is original what is the part # and is it still available? Thanks.

no, this is not a factory part, Stude did not use gaskets behind the door handles. this is a good way to tighten up loose handles and/or keep your paint from getting scratched however. You'll have to cut your own from some gasket paper or sheet rubber.

Seems like I remember Art Unger saying that Western Star (semi trucks) used identical door handles, and used a gasket. Maybe that's where it came from.
