  • Pedal protector question

I am in the process of re-installing the pedal protector shield on a 55 champion sedan. I am confused about what I am seeing and what is actually in front of me. Page 209 of the 53-58 body parts book shows the shield. there are two holes in the bottom which require a special washer for each hole. What are these two holes used for? The shield goes up against the frame at this point and bolts on 5 locations in the upper and side part of the shield.

I recently installed same on my '55 President sedan. Those screws go into the crossmember Image no. 1501-8 on page 447 in the 55-58 Chassis parts catalog.

That's what I thought, but there are no screw holes in the cross member!
      Thanks!
