Funny you just bought a C-K. I get so many ebay e-mails asking for them, I had to stop saving them after I got a few dozen looking. A street rodder would pay 4-5K for that car in a New York minute and you could keep the bling. Nice catch.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but aren't those fender-top ornaments really supposed to be on the rear fenders of 51-52 cars? A rarely seen option to be sure!

I believe top fender trim was an option rarely ordered in 53; fender mounted rearview, no; four fog lights, no; and the trim between bumper and hood looks like it came from a 48 or 49. Still and all, can you find me one of those?:D

Firewall tag reads 4H-C3, Mr.Biggs.Still has the original engine in it although they removed one head and the cylinders are now quite rusty.3 spd with overdrive. When looking it over there was another engine block in the trunk along with more engine stuff. In the car are 2 radios besides the one in the dash.Hope to get it home tomorrow. It figures that I got rid of a R1 engine 3 weeks ago as I was "done with project cars" Looking at the pics again and thinking with all the bling bling already on it maybe fender skirts and a visor are next.:D

So, it IS a 53. Cool.

There probably were some fender-top ornaments as an option, Brad. It's just the shape of these looks suspiciously like the rear fender toppers that were an option on the 51 - 52 models. IMHO they certainly don't do anything for this '53. Obvioulsy tho, someone was into glitz with this thing - none of which flatters it for my eye.[B)]

Yes, they do look like the rear toppers for 52s. I just bought a pair at Reedsville for my 52. The front fender toppers for 53s had a small plastic sail on the leading edge. It shows them in the 53 brochure, but I can't find mine right now. Also the bar above the center fog lights was an accessory, too.

Yeah - I wuz thinkin' that the proper 53 ornaments were/are the same as was used in '55.
I had an NOS pair of those '52 front things with the plastic bullet. I was at a zone meet and a fella pulled up near where the vendors were and opened his trunk. It was full of NOS stuff he'd accumulated thru the years. Since he no longer had any Studes and wanted to clean out his garage, he brought it by the meet after seeing in the local paper that there was a Stude meet going on.
Heh - talk about a feeding frenzy! I just grabbed at whatever I could reach from where I stood! Sold alot of it that day.:D

The great thing about this car is that it is a whole lot easier to take all those ornaments off than it is to put sheet metal back on where is is rusted away.

Yank yank. It's no rust free gem.It cant be seen in the pics but the front fenders had the metal strip and bondo treatment. The rockers are solid and the frame shows minimal rust. There was a patch on the drivers floor but A-pillars seem solid. It is what it is.

I have owned most of the items shown on that car, but never put any on them on a car. I usually took optional trim off the cars.

The fender ornaments are the incorrect ones for a 1953 and they are also in the incorrect location.

All of the other front end pieces appear correct for a late '53, which this car is. Do the center bumper guards have lights or blanks in them (I can't tell from the picture.)? That cross bar is a rare item. That horizontal grille gaurd bar was a mid-year 1953 item. The '54 bar is different.

Man, that center bar, grille guard is UGLY![xx(]

Bob, is there a chance those front fender ornaments are gold? It sorta looks like it in that photo, but it could easily be the light and/or tha angle of the shot. I was thinking IF they were gold-colored, it MIGHT be a '52 kinda thing - gold for the 100th anniversary of Studebaker.:)

Welp, I doubted those ornaments were in the parts book, but they are! '52 only (rear fenders) and the W suffix to the part # means they were chromed. If they'd been gold, they'd have carried a V suffix. Still, a 100th anniversary option. AC-2199 :D
