View Full Version : Heater Filter?

Well, tomorrow morning it is supposed to be 23 degrees so I figure I had better get to work on making the heater in the Champ work a little better as I had planned to drive it to a meet a couple hours away. I had never noticed before the metal filter-like device that slides down into the plastic heater box. As I pulled it out the thing began to shred. Now I cannot get what is left of it back into its slot.
What exactly is this devise for and are new ones available from any of our vendors?

If it's the same as a Lark, check SI's page 113

Not only are you guys good, you're fast too!
Okay here's another question. What happens if I do not have that filter in the plastic box? Like I said I was planning on driving the Champ tomorrow morning.

Nothing happens really. Over time it would filter out dust (probably better if it had a light coat of some sort of oil on it) and (from what I've seen over the years) block leaves, bugs and whatnot from clogging the heater core's passages! ;)

If you're going to run without it, for optimal heat, I'd run some tape over the slot. Also, make certain the baffle in the fender duct is open.

On my car, that filter saved the heater core from a very large, very dirty field mouse nest - they can squeeze through the vent grille and get nice and warm down there. It's a cheap part, so why not replace it?

I think SASCO is down to the last few 1000 of those filters. He kept one pallet out of several left over.

You guys are the best! Thanks for the help. I will order one Monday and tape it up and drive the Champ tomorrow. Thanks again!
