  • Transmission Fluid

The Feb. 12th issue of old car weekly, indicates that Ford Transmissions(1961/81) need to use type F fluids. Can anyone please help to identify the Ford transmission used in Studebaker/Avanti late 50 and early 60 years. I'm thinking my 63 Avanti is using a Ford Tranny. Thanks, for the help.[?]

The Studebaker Flight-O-Matic and Power Shift as in Avantis are not Ford but Borg Warner cast iron case Automatics similar to Ford. So all BW Trans of that type do like the type F or FA, since they were designed to use Type "A". They can also use Dextron for a slippier shift than the Type F.

Do [u]NOT</u> use any Type "A" that is currently available, it is junk!

I put type F in everything. Even my power steering. Supposedly has a microscopic abrasive that keeps spool valves clean.

I posted last year that Valvoline makes it again. Support them and buy some.
