I'm negotiating the purchase of a 1964 Transtar and ordered the build sheet from the SNM. It arrived yesterday with a bit of a surprise. The vehicle I am looking at has spent its entire life on the East Coast yet the build sheet clearly shows it as having been a fleet order for the City of SAN DIEGO [:0]! I have been relying on the seller for information as it is over 700 miles from my location. Everything appears on the up & up and the serial plate photo appears to be legit so I don't think I've ordered the wrong line ticket.
This is a truck with a final assembly date of Dec. 26/63 and the order was written on Dec. 12. Could San Diego have cancelled their order and the truck ended up in "stock" at the factory ? I'm sure there were other orders cancelled after the announcement of production ending for some models but they wouldn't have been line set (I would think) yet this one was. Any speculation on how this could have arisen ?
