  • overdrive leak

I have a 54 studababy R15 truck with a overdrive (R10B-1H) leaking at the driveshaft. I've bought 2 part #s' 198975 (s), and they are too big (2.44inches). I have been driving it for 5 years and got a new clutch,,, my trani guy says the leak is serious and I'm trying to find the right seal. Common problem? I'm pretty sure it's leaked all along,, (aren't there a few "factory leaks"?). There really isn't much of a pan below the driveshaft for a safegaurd resevour,, but,,,, I want to drive it till I find the correct seal,,,,?. ok?

        The 1954 Model 3 R - 15 trucks were equipped with the T9 4 speed trans.
You indication that you have a R10 overdrive means that your drive train came from a later truck.(T85) , (57 up)
The R10 overdrive was mainly used on the V8 engines and came from the Packard merger.
It was made by Borg Warner and used on trucks and larger cars.
        Packard and Lincoln and others.
The seal you are looking for is 1540818 and costs $35.00
This number usually stamped on this seal.
Jack Vines converts these transmissions to take a cheaper seal.
He advertises in Turning Wheels http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/
I doubt that Kaiser ever used R10.
The best way to identify this transmission (T85) is the see if the access cover is on the side
with the transmission shift lever coming thru the side cover

          Sorry
          I was wrong
          The R10 was used on the T86and T 96.
The R11 was used on the T85!!!
          Kaiser used these also.
