The Allegheny Region Chapter SDC will be driving in the Fourth of July Parade in Canonsburg, PA. We have been doing this for years. It is a huge parade, and has made the national news because of the tradition of folks setting their lawn chairs at the curb a week in advance for the parade.

Last year I drove my '62 Lark VI. It's a perfect parade car because it never overheats, is a good "20 footer" with it's original paint, is an automatic and loafs along on the idle speed for most of the parade.

He's not visible in this pic, but my passenger was Elmo of the Muppets, and all along the parade route kids were shouting, "Elmo!" "Elmo!" So of course I had to wave his hand to them.;)

tutone63,

Don't keep us in suspense. Has this work cured the problems that you were having?

quote:So, what happens is, I start the car, it runs and idles fine. Then when I put the car into gear, and take off, about 60% of the time when I come back down to a stop, the idle is so low that the car shakes and sputters. Unless I baby it from a stop, it will flood. After it does that, it will miss while driving at highway speeds. If I cut the engine and re-start, it idles and runs fine again until I stop and go for a while. I have also recently found that if I quick-rev the engine by pushing the foot-feed all the way to the floor,(in park or neutral of course) the idle will pick back up... for a while.

Hope to get all 4 of my Studes out (see list at bottom of post) and pose them for a group photo. High time this was done. It'll have to be real close to the house (and I live in a townhouse complex) since I have no way to take the Izzer anywhere except by pulling it myself! Time to get creative.

Sadly, I don't think I will be driving mine. The engine looked like this yesterday.

http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t5/ee-engineer/PICT0083.jpg

It all started with pulling the intake to replace the gasket and went down hill from there.... Broke some bolts off and had to take the heads into the machine shop to get fixed.

On the other hand, I am using the opportunity to really clean and detail everything so there is a bright side. I will be WORKING on my Stude on the 4th most likely! Need to get it back together and running for Cedar Rapids.

Glad to see everyone getting their Studes ready. [8D]

StudeDave.. I REALLY like that picture! Do you have a "high-res" version you could email me? There's just something about a 2 door wagon. [^] Make mine a '56 President, please. :)

I see what I can do as for the photo request, Matt.

You're on your own as far as the '56 wagon goes...

I've known I've had to work on the 4th for some time, unfortunately, I'll be watching for any Studes on a joy ride.

Then again

It won't be long before the 2r5's back out on the road again.

I'll be driving my '61 Champ. It has AC and since it is supposed to be 96 degrees tomorrow that seemed the best choice.

I will be driving my 1948 Studebaker M16 from East Boston up through North Reading, Lynnfield, and back to East Boston. Then I have to go to work. I will leave my house around 7:30 AM; The truck is no speed demon!

I'll be driving my '56 President in the morning and my '60 Convertible in the afternoon. Plan to drop the top and take it to the beach.

Lennart...

Beautiful photograph, Lennart. Thank you for posting. Almost makes up for the fact I don't have a Studebaker to drive today :(
