Avanti Motors built an XUT (eXtreme Utility Truck)and called it a Studebaker. I've seen pictures of it and have been told that they never sold one. Does anyone know where that truck is?

It's likely locked up in the Cancun facility, if it actually was built. There were supposedly three XUV/XUT prototypes built when in Villa Rica, GA and taken to Cancun when the new place opened. In John Hull's book "Avanti", there a picture of a completed and a partially assembled XUV loaded on a car carrier for the move. The XUT was announced but may possibly not have been built.

Mike Kelly reportedly said the Studebaker name was being dropped in favor of Avanti XUV/XUT due to negative comments about the name.

They had one at the Chicago Auto Show a few years ago. Looked like a Hummer.

And GM tried to sue them (unsuccessfully) and block its display. Talk about a million dollars worth of free publicity.

The XUT displayed at the Detroit Auto Show was a prototype vehicle only built on a Ford F-250 or F-350 chasis. The grille caused a stir at GM but gave Kelly massive PR. There were none of these vehicles actually built and sold. The one and only prototype is locked up very tightly in the Avanti Buildings in Cancun by all of the Mexican creditors and it is doubtful if will ever see the light of day again. Mexican Creditors have much more authority over assets and other things than those in the US have. And there will be no bail-ouy for Mr. Kelly.
