Frank and his lovely bride stopped for a cup of coffee in Oklahoma today... passing through on their way to AZ.

They have the most impeccable taste in cars and trucks!

:) Nice looking new truck, there, Frank. How's the new coil-spring rear suspension compare to the previous ones you've owned? (Yes, I know it may be a couple days before Frank is back with the group and able to answer.) :DBP

We met up with them this afternoon in Clinton, OK. Heading for home in Arizona where Frank & I can terrorize Sun City. It was just crappy weather in Chicago for the holidays.

Hey Bob, this new Ram with barely 1000 miles on it is the cats meow. It has trailer sway control and pulls straighter and faster than the 06 it replaced. The 390 horsepower makes a difference too [:p] I don't know if it is the new rear coil setup or what but it will tow at 70-75 with one finger on the wheel.Rides nice too. I believe it is their (Chryslers) best one yet. They did away with the somewhat drab interiors and are really luxurious now. The best pickup pulling one of Studebakers nicest designs. In a hotel tonight in Gallup NM tonight. No fun on New Years eve but our choice.

Yeah, ran up and down Colorado Blvd tonight, Studedick. Our old stompin' grounds! Everyone camped out all night for 7 miles to get the best seat. Great car watching.. That's the real parade show as far as I'm concerned. Looked for Studes, but didn't see one. Beautiful cars out and beautiful weather for it...converts were out in full form. Wish I had my car out here. :( Have a great 2009, buddy.

Well fellow Nebraskans Frank and Elizabeth (and displaced ones Denny and Jan) I'll have you know it was a BALMY 4 degrees early this A.M. when I scraped the windshield and headed off to work. Enjoy the warm weather!

Wow!!! it was wonderful to get back to warm weather. As Frank backed the 41 off the trailer the lady across the street came out and said she did not want him starting that noisy car at 5am as she sleeps late. We do not do anything that early ever but do go to breakfast with the hotrod bunch on Wednesday mornings at 7am. We may have to put the car in my driveway Tuesday nights to avoid a neighborhood fight. Glad to have Frank & Elizabeth here for 3 months.

Denny, that's hilarious. How loud can the '41 be? Sheeesh. Hope they enjoy the winter there... unless Mrs. Kravitz goes overboard. ;):D Ask Frank what happened with that carpenter and his dad's parts for me?
Thanks again for the offer to help with that other car a while back. How close are you to Glendale?

:) Good to have the report, Frank. I spent New Years Day at The 2009 Indianapolis Auto Show. They had four of the new trucks on display; one 1500 built in Fenton MO, two 1500s built in Warren MI, and a 2500 series built in Mexico, confirming our sourcing "discussion" in another thread.

The new truck does look well-executed. 'Too bad it was such a poor economic time in which to introduce it, with so many left-over 2008s clogging up the sales lots. Shades of Studebaker's inventory problem in the fall of 1963; here came the nicely-restyled, appealing 1964 models...but the lots were so full of overbuilt 1963 Larks there was hardly any room -and certainly weren't enough customers- to absorb them all.

Still, the '09 Ram seems more appealing than the all-new F-150. Just a personal opinion.

They had a base work Ram on the floor and I talked to a construction-worker-type guy looking at it. He said he liked it, but it was so much more money than the base work Chevy Silverado on the other side of the room. By George, he was right! I went over and looked. The trucks were comparable as to options and equipment, even were both base refrigerator white, but the Ram was almost $5,000 more on the sticker! Ouch.

Well, Frank, say "hi" to the Lockmons and keep that noisy hot rod '41 off the street until at least 9 AM, when the neighbor lady leisurely arises from her peaceful slumber.[}:)] You wouldn't want to disturb her doves, cooing gently to awaken her.;) :DBP

Did that new Dodge have the built-in locking toolboxes in the sides of the pickup box? Maybe those make it worth $5000 more.:D But the 'best' 5K difference story I can tell you was about 4 years ago when the marketing boffins at GM/Saab thought they'd have a million seller by adapting a Saab-like front clip on a Suburu Imperza wagon and call it a 9.2. By chance at the local auto show here, the Saab stand and the Suburu stand was directly opposite each other, and an Impreza wagon and a 9.2 were literally footsteps apart. The ONLY difference I could see (and lots of others) was that 'different' front clip along with the $5K more price tag! It was no wonder the 9.2 only lasted a year or two.

Well, I'm glad to hear Frank has only GOOD things to say about his new truck.

Craig

It will be interesting to see how we can keep the neighbor happy. The car does have loud pipes. We are 2 miles from Glendale and 8 from the 2010 meet hotel. Today is car wash time. Both of Franks cars got dirty on the trip and mine is filthy from all the crappy weather in Illinois.
