I've been going through a big box of photos that my granddad has, and found several of the Zip Van that my SDC Chapter restored over a decade ago.

Ready to head to South Bend, June, 1997.

BTW, as nice as this Zip Van looked on the outside, it didn't run and I think the engine was even stuck. But it's museum quality, for sure.

I've got several more.

That's neat Matt, your family and the people in your Chapter sure did a wonderful job on that Zip Van, looks really GREAT!:)

You all are to be congratulated for a good job, and you really set the Standard for other Chapters to follow for Museum Donations! [^]

Hope you get a museum placard up for your club's efforts some day, Matthew. Great pictures. Like kids on Christmas day!

A brown beard, 34" waistline, and cute little kids! Where did they all go? Sure brings back a lot of memories. NT

Great pictures Matthew.

Is that a Chevy between the Zip Van and the truck?

But you already had the hat <G>.

The Zip Van looks good. It is closer to correct (exterior mirrors, steering wheel & radiator cap door decal [may be there in one picture]) than most are done.

Lenny, I've no clue as to what that car is.

StudeGary, the emblem/decal was probably added shortly after these pics were taken. I know it was there before we donated the Van. ;) This Zip Van also had the original post office numbers painted on it. :D

The red haired man in the picture is a postal employee. He was able to get all the orignal paint codes, and other vital info about the van. We were concerned about transporting it across several state lines with official P.O. Markings on it. He volunteered to deliver it from So. Ga. To S.Bend. If he was stopped and questioned, He had post office I.D. Most of the pictures were taken at a local body shop where we did most of the work. The car in question was a customer,s car. I think it was a 62 Chevy 4 dr. I've been wearing the hat(or a similar one) since the early 50's NT

Mr. Zip must be inside the van <G>. I do not remember a Mr. Zip on the exterior of my Zip Van or any other production Zip Van that I have seen.

The Zip Van had a little braket type frame which a poster could be inserted. I think at times Mr. Zip rode in there. Other times it was Santa, or a starving child, or so on. The frame was rusted away, and we couldn't find a replacement so we deleted it from the restoration. NT
