Who is a source for V8 crankshaft end play shims. I looked on Stephen Allen's site but only saw listings for 6 cylinders. I need a .002 shim. Does the 6 use the same shim as an 8? Thanks for any help.

Darryl, they're different. Last I talked to Ted Harbit about this, they (the V8 ones) were getting scarce. I'll look-see what I might have laying about but I won't even start to make a promise.

I'm in the procss of assembling a '55 185 and needed spacers to get the crank end play set. After looking and calling till I was blue in the face with no luck, I hapened upon an old Exxon station here in Warner Robins, that has been doing a bit of differential work, they had a truck load of spacers, different sizes and thickness'. What I needed was .016 total and I already had a .008 & .004. What I came up with was two .008's that were new. The center holes were slightly larger, but I just centered them on the crank, held in place with a bit of grease and the measurement was perfect. Give me the inside dia and the total thickness you need and I'll stop after work tomorrow and see what they have...

Darryl,

I looked in the most likely place and found some 5s. Also had one kinked 3 but no 2s. IF you had a 3 in your stack, you could take it out and add one of these 5s.
Of course, maybe Buddy can help from that old garage. Seems like new shims would be easy to repro. :)

Thanks for the help. I've located a shim from one of our Stude. parts vend., he's sending it out tommorrow. If for some reason it does not work I'll be back. Again I really appreciate the the help.

I'm curious to know who had one, Darryl. I'd like to get a few to have here.;)
