'42 Champs were the only hubcap to ever have that logo. The '50 Champ hubcaps just had this in the center.

Yes, a "Champion" . Derived in part from Latin for Gladiator.

Matthew, 50 Champions didn't have that crest on their hubcaps. SOME '50 hubcaps were smooth-centered with "Studebaker" written twice around the outer edge. Some had no lettering and some had little divits around the outer perimeter.
There WERE some optional full disc COVERS that could be ordered at extra cost. Two types actually - one without any ornamentation and one with the crest you show.
I'd bet the majority of '50 Champions came with one or another style of the smaller, "hubcap" (bottlecap, if you like) on them.

Amazingly, the '46 Stude Champions that were built didn't have these gladiator covers on them even tho the '46 cars were just mildly rehashed '42s. The cover they put on the 46s is pretty "Blah"-looking with just a very lazy S in it's center.[|)]

Miscreant adrift in
the BerStuda Triangle!!

1958 Provincial wagon
1953 Commander coupe

The vendor said that every Studebaker collector should have one of these 42 hub caps in their collection, and I do. It is in the cubbyhole to the right of the 38 headlight.

Yes, and I think they were also used on 42 Commanders. Below is a picture of my uncle and grandmother by my grandfather's 42 Commander.

It was the same cap alright, but it said either Commander or President on them!;)
I know SASCO had (maybe still DO have) some of the '42 Presidnet ones in stock. The '42 Commander variety ended shows up on a '47 Commander in some of the early ads for '47s, but it seems that they actually wore the caps with a "nipple" in the center and no lettering at all.
There's also a "blackout" version of the 42 Comm/Pres covers that was simply painted car color with a white ring just outside of the concave center area. [8D]
