  • 64 Cruiser Fender Emblem Mystery

George Hamlin's Jet Green 64 Cruiser on the back cover of the new December 2008 TW issue is nearly identical to ours. Nearly, but not quite. Ours has a "Cruiser" script emblem on the front corner of the front fenders, George's has a "Studebaker" script located there. Any ideas on why the differences?

There have been at least one if not more '64 & '65's that have showed up lately like that besides this one, and I had to wonder if that many people preferred the "Studebaker" nameplate that much to change them! [:0]

They seem to be mostly Canadian built cars.

George does that to all his cars.
The correct nameplate on the 64 Cruiser front fender is CRUISER.
      It could be an epidemic.
At Lancaster a fellow was washing his stationwagon and he claimed it came with a STUDEBAKER nameplate on the front fender,
Wrong! Someone changed it. The holes are the same for both.

The only non-fleet '64-'66's that had 'Studebaker' on the front fenders were the 1966 station wagons.

          Mono,

I believe Lancaster was the last time I washed my Wagonaire, that aside, my comment was that the 'Studebaker' on the fender was how it was when I bought the car, too cheap to buy replacements. Probably couldn't line up the pins with the holes anyways.

I have seen in TW, pictures of Marshall Police models with the
'Studebaker' script on the front fender, the Marshall in Lancaster was this way.

No doubt someone more engaged than I will have the answer to this mystery.

Marshals, taxicabs, and heavy-duty sedans had the Studebaker script on the front fenders, as being discussed. BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

              Not that I wanted to...but

              According to the parts book:

              1360488-W---Y2- F2- P2---- 64S- 64V-- Challenger
              1360490-W--- Y1- Y3- F3- P3 ---- 64S- 64V -- Studebaker
              1360489-W--- Y4- F4- P4---- 64S- 64V-- - Commander
              1360496-W--- Y8- J8- L8- P8---- 64S- 64V--- Daytona
              1360494-W--- Y9- 64S- 64V---- Cruiser
              ------
              So, to sum it up

I'm still not going to buy the correct ones.

You are not required to buy them. You may enjoy your Studebaker the way you want. I know George will.

I don't get it Bill, what does this prove? We get that you want your car wrong, and that's OK! This shows that if your car is a Commander, it gets same, if a Daytona it gets that, if it were a Police, Taxi or H.D. unit it would get a "Studebaker" just as Bob said, so what? [:0]

The mounting pins are all the same, and all the fenders are drilled. In '64 they got smarter than in '56-'57 where the Sedan fenders had to be made without holes because the Scotsman had no nameplate and each model had different pins!

                    And '63 Daytona's had L A R K spelled out on the front fenders. They also had S T U D E B A K E R on the deck lid.

Mine doesn't have any of that. Build your car like you want it. [8D][^]

Actually, I kinda like Studebaker on the front fender. My 65 Cruiser only said Studebaker on the back panel under the taillight...nowhere else. Nobody ever knew what it was.

It proves nothing other than I finally went to the manual after 3 years and determined what was appropriate.

I was trying to add some humour to my response, but if you want to send me 2 'Commander' emblems for Christmas I'll have them installed for Cedar Rapids
