  • Tips on repairing your rear trunk hinges

Recently, I spoke with a friend who is located in Pacifica,Ca. He has a 1950 Commander Starlight. As we spoke, he told me about a simple way to fix your 1950 -1952 Starlight and Business Coupe rear hinges. As you know, they are hard to find. The starlight and business coupes have a larger arc on the base of the plate. Cut to the chase, Pete told me to find rear hinges off of a sedan studebaker car. This is what you do. You take the base off the sedan hinge by grinding the 2 revits off. Go to your local hardware store and purchase 2 revits that is a size bigger than the original one. Use and redrill the hole. Then, you buy 4 washer. Two washers per revit. You get a mig wielder and wield the top washer onto the revit. Grind to make it smooth and then put on car. I see on ebay that a set starting price is $150.00. I spent less than $2.00 and wielded myself. I had tons of sedan hinges so I started to save me money. Anyway, I hope this helps.
