I am working on a 53 hard top.
Using a 289 with AD.
I am thinkig of using a drive shaft from a 58 GH.
The question I have is:
How much of the drive shaft yoke needs to be out of the
automatic transmission?
If the 58 GH drive shaft is not suitable, then what other Studebaker drive shaft might be, without modifications?
Thanks
Paul

The driveshaft I told you I'd give you next time I'm in South Bend.

any 58-up C or K with the same trans and rear end as you are using.

JDP should have the one that I was using in my '55 coupe before I changed it to a 4-speed.

1" to 1.25 should be good. Best to measure on a drive-on lift or with the car supported by jackstands under the rear axle.

On its way to a 15.097 Spring 2006.

Thanks for the replies.
The 58 hawk's drive shaft has just slightly less then 1 1/2" exposed yoke. So I will go with that.

You can also raise the front and rear frame of the car and let the rear wheels hand down not touching the ground which will give a good indication of how far the yoke will extend out of the rear of the transmission.
