Sure wish I had some of this sheet metal when I started.

I've seen that shot in Turning Wheels a few years ago. I understand the car bodies were all scrapped.

          Why were they scrapped?

Probably because the railroad insurance company required it.
(Basically, they bought them as the settlement with Studebaker for damages in shipping..)

Well, I guess my picture came around again. On the other thread, I said that I didn't care if people copied my pictures.

I bought this negative on eBay and made it into a print and posted it on the forum about 2 years ago, and sent it to TW.

              Now it is here again!

What can I say, Leonard? Good things just keep coming around. Thanks again for being so generous with your photos.

Sorry if I stepped out of line Leonard, I received the photo by email from a good friend that sends me photos of neat cars and never questioned the source.

                  My bad, Bob

No problem Bob. I have posted it here and on the HAMB and in Turning Wheels and Photobucket. Once it is on the internet, the whole world has it.

                      Hi Leonard
I see in your signature picture it looks like your fender is painted
to match the rest of the car.

Ohhh, that ol photo [)]. I recall seeing that photo in a Trains magazine a couple years ago. Never could read the gondola markings on the end of the car though.

No, the factory did that. The other fender doesn't match.

If memory serves me, it was Valparaiso Indiana. I believe they were heading for the Los Angeles assembly plant. I do remember reading that Los Angeles received the bodies & painted them & then final assembly. I wonder if Hamilton did that too & if so, when did they change it to Hamilton assembling the bodies?
