    Would a 4L60E transmission be a wise choice for a R2 Engine?

4L60E is a computer controlled electronic shift transmission. Unless you can add the proper electronics and computer to the car it doesn't sound like the way to go. A 700R4 or 200R4 would be a less expensive and far easier swap.

The "E" in 4L60E stands for "electronically controlled". If you get a
computer to run it, its an excellent transmission, but the added cost
isnt worth effort. You CAN use a 4L60, which is an even stronger version
of the 700R4, but its quite rare, used only around 1993. If the trans
has a "TV cable", then it can be used in a Studebaker.

I have a 4L60 in my 54. It came from a 91 Caprice 9C1 police car. If you are looking for the 4L60, I'd try the police cars (9C1 is the designation) from the early 90's. It does have the TV cable. Also be advised that you will need to provide 12V power to operate the torque converter lockup. It's a four connector plug on the tranny.

It also has the tailshaft driven speedo gear, that will accept a speedo cable or an electric signal generator. Both are GM options.

        Good Luck, Bob
