  • Chrome headlight ring-'50 Studebaker champion

Where can I send the 'pot metal' headlight rings surrounding the two headlights on my 1950 Champion. I want to chrome them.

  • #2
J&P plating in Portland Indiana did a nice job on the headlight rims for my 52.
I am no plating expert, but it takes a lot of layers to get a nice chrome result. Were your 50 rings originally chrome or painted? If only painted, it might cost more to get the copper/nickel/whatever coats built up that go under the chrome.

Dan, they strip down to the pot metal to start with anyway.

James, if there's any pits or damage to the rings, it's gonna cost to have those repaired before they even start to plate them. Of course, you CAN just ask them to plate over pits and scratches and whatever other ailments the rings have, but those boo-boos will just be accentuated by the new chrome.
Repairs to such imperfections are gonna cost above the cost of the plating itself.
Whateve you do, spend the bucks and have the work done by a reputable company. I've had brand new pieces totally ruined by bargain platers! It's a tough and frustrating lesson to learn.[}]

James, In the mid '60s, my brother had a wreck in my '50 Champion requiring us to replace the front fender. I didn't know this until I restored the car, but we put a fender from a Commander on it. That one came with a chrome ring. So, if you would like to have a Studebaker chromed headlight ring, buy two from a Commander.

...as long as the Commander was a '51.
