Doesn't this one smell a little funny?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Studebaker-Avanti-63-Studebaker-Avanti-R-1-Upgraded-to-R-2_W0QQitemZ320317565196QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item320317565196&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1308

Just look at those polished factory alloy wheels and the upgrade to the "R2" engine..

Smells a LOT funny to me! For the items you mentioned, yes... but experience has taught me to watch out whenever you see THAT many superlatives... at the least it's a big turnoff[xx(]

Looks like a nice car- LOVE the color combo[8D]

What I think is funny is the 3 guys bidding on it to $5100 with a $6000 buy it now. Are they serious?

They must be trying to get it cheaper,or don't it's a fraud. They are not that bright either way.

JP, thanks for notifying the authorities. Just to let you and all others know, eBAY has already pulled the ad for the car. So not an issue anymore.

Pardon my ignorance on the Ebay selling ways, but I read this early this morning and noticed it was from a seller with well over 200 transactions, I think, not a "one post" seller. Did someone hack into their account and post that, or are they a crook? How does that happen?

He had feedback as a buyer and not many within the last 60 days. I did not see any sales feedback. To his credit he had purchased several auto related items.

It does make one nervous when a seller's first offering is a great, expensive item at an extremely low price.

This is about the third or fourth Stude used in this type of scam.

1.. Hijack a good account via a Phish e-mail to get the user name and password.
2. Log on your stolen account and change the e-mail address.
3. Post as many fraud auction as you like.

I was so close to pulling the trigger on that, but I have a problem thinking people want to give stuff away. It just didn't sound right.

I received a very convincing email from the seller, even after the Ebay ad was pulled...

Yep, very convincing, and using the standard fraud template. Just wire him the 6K and kiss it goodbye. The car does not belong to the scammer.

How do you figure a $20 main seal kit for a Champ motor is a scam?

try punching up a kabota mower or Hemi. When I had spare time ,I used to e-mail e-bay dailey on scams. Once saw a 63 Impala SS that looked like new for $6000. Seller said car was in Michigan ,BUT he was over seas, Wanted 1/2 mailed and other 1/2 when car was picked up.Would not take $6000 if picked up in person in 3 days. Would have lost $3000 and car would not have been their. Also how many $3000 down payments do you think he would get?

I have found a couple of these from time to time. One was a great Buick Special. I played along a little to find out about the car. When he said he was in CA but the car was in Montana, I told him great that I worked for an airline and could fly out immmediately to look at it. That ended that scam. A couple of others have been about the same. When you indicate you have the ability to get to where the item is or have a "brother-in-law" with a private jet that will take you, it confounds them
Hey, enjoy the fun and drive em nuts.
