  • 54 hardtop quarter window weatherstrip HELP!

I am reinstalling the rear quarter? windows. I hope the description is accurate. These are the rear roll up windows in the 54 hardtop that roll into the rear quarters. My question: Inside the fixed window channel that mirrors the window opening is a fabric/weatherstrip that is held in by the stainless trim riveted to the channel. This fabric has disintergrated with age.

My search of vendors website show no replacements. I am sure I'm not the first with this problem and I'm wondering what you folks have done to replace the material. I would go so far as to remove the stainless portion by grinding off the rivets, pry open the piece and replace the fabric. Any advice, is as always, greatly appreciated.

if you're talking about the fuzzy stuff, I believe that it is available from SI if not other vendors. Or the CASO replacement is to glue in a strip of the loop side of some wide velcro tape. (now what to do with the hook side?)

          Hi Bob,

Questions about those quarter windows come up pretty regularily. Here are several previous postings that discuss them in one form or another:

Plan on spending some serious time to redo them They are a big pain to work on for sure.

I was looking for the same stuff and asked my buddy to keep an eye out for it while I was at sea... He e-mailed me to let me know that he had found plenty of the stuff... but I couldn't have it!! It was what his trunk was lined with .. a 1996 (I believe)F**d Escort.... Check it out!! He is kinda nuts every now and then and I forgot about it when I went home... I will look in his trunk this time![}]

Update on the "Fuzzy Stuff" for the rear window. I made a trip through several stores and found a material in Menard's carpet section that is very close to what was there originally. It is latex backed and has Fuzz that is very close to the original. The Fuzz may be a little taller. I'll give it a try this weekend and report back.

Thanks all for the help. Bob

P.S. Apparently the local Joanne's Fabric doesn't get many males. Dang the service is great in that place and I'm 65 and no Kenny Rodgers. Wait a minute, I saw K.R. a while back and I am better looking.
