i can't beleive my new toy. i think i got a good deal on this. got it home cleaned the points and put in some new plugs, hooked up a seperate gas tank and she fired right up. but needs a carb kit. seamed to run real smoth though. i need to get some tires also. this truck had not been started in thirteen years and set an additional six or seven before that. the odometer says 65000 and i would belive it if some one said it was just that. put in brake fluid and had a pretty solid petal. yes i do plan to put tires and go through the brakes and carb, along with many other little things but can't wait to just drive this. will be my first to have on the road to call my own. and incase anyone wants to know i found it by takeing my starter for my silver hawk in to get new bushings in it and he said he had a studebaker, next thing i know i bought this 500 dollar truck. any one have any suggestions for a name????

Name? Park it over at my house for about 15 years and I promise I'll return it with a name... Man, for $500 you stole that! Maybe you can call it grand theft truck.

$500? five... hun...

dang, I live in the wrong area.

serious question, is that the right carb? I didn't know Stude ever used Holley carbs on anything. I'm not a big fan, either - a good Carter will probably make it run better (at least based on my experiences with old slant sixes)

Nice catch!

Names? Since you effectively "nicked" it at $500, how about "Nicky"? Or perhaps "Plunder"? Boy, right place right time or what...

I think the carb should be a carter RBS. The way you stole that truck you should name it "Billy the Kid" or "Jesse James" or something like that. NT

My first car was a '61 Lark two-door hardtop that we bought brand new.

It was that same color of blue.

We eventually began calling it "Old Blue"

I too vote for "Old Blue"!!!

Man,Kevin that is a nice looking truck! I guess you will have it ready to drive to Conway for the December meeting right? ;)
BTW Since I talked to you and looked at the pictures it looks like a short wheelbase to me. Good score! :D

the plan is to have it back together within a week or so then i will have time to drive it a little before i take it to conway. little trial runs around town. but i will drive it to the meeting as long as i can find a carb or get the holley to idle down.

I see that no one has stepped up with a carb yet. I do have another person in mind who might have what you need.
How about some pictures of more of the truck. Unlike Studedick I don't think I'll be coming by to see it in person any time soon and I am sure some of the forum members are curious too.

Kevin, nice find and a nice catch for $500.00!!! As for a name, I call mine Clement for one of the dons and he'd like to have a brother so why not Peter, Henry or Jacob? Your truck looks like a late 61 or a 62 so what year is it? Also see that there is a rear bumper on it and that's a good sign. If you want to dress it up in the future I have a chrome grille for it and the headlight rims are available for it also. Like the color and looks like it cleaned up very easily.

That blue engine is a dead giveaway that someone MAY have rebuilt it, you can see where the original '61-early '62 Red/Orange valve cover paint shows through. It isn't a full flow block is it?

it is not a full flow block and it is a 62. someone has been through this truck at one time but i know for sure it was at least 17 years ago. i am going to try and get the rear brakes bask on it tonight. i broke one of the brake shoe clips so i have to fix that but other than that it should be ok. i was also thinking about the idle problem. if the advanced timing vacuum thingy was leaking inside or not holding a vacuumm could that cause it to idle high?
