Sorry that I posted this is the wrong section so here it is again.
Just wanted to post a reminder that the Reedsville all Studebaker swap meet will be held on Nov 7th through Nov 9 at the Mifflin County youth park in Reedsville PA which is 3 miles North of Lewistown PA.
I have been going to this swap meet since the early 80's and have always enjoyed the scenic drive, the beauty of the central PA area and the great people that show up at this meet. (most of it is indoors BTW)
Max Corkins usually hosts an open house Friday evenings at his restoration shop in Lewistown (sometimes with his band playing) Good accomodations are generally easy to find, there is great food available (even Amish style nearby) and if you want more active nightlife State College is only about 30 minute drive. THis is a fun meet and I hope to meet many of you Studebaker fans there.

Looking forward to it[^]

Last year was my first trip to Max's shop- LOVED it! Hopefully he'll have the same thing this year; nobody told me there were cars upstairs you could see![:p]

That is, I'd like to go... if I can find it again[|)] I was following Guido and he ditched me By some fluke I happened upon the place...

All I need is my GPS and a street address, and I'll be AOK;)

Many people love this swap meet for its uniqueness and scenic location. I called Max and he hosting an open house at his Studebaker shop in 2008. I believe that the band will be playing as well. Set your GPS for town center in Reedsville and it will take you to it. Maxs shop is near center city Lewistown.
We have a great time when we attend this meet.
Here is the info
PENNSYLVANIA, Reedsville, Nov 7-8, Manhattan Chapter SDC Studebaker Flea Market, Mifflin County Youth Park off Route 322 five miles north of town. Host: Max Corkins. 717-513-8251, email can be found in the local events section

For those of you planning on attending, you should make your hotel reservations [u]NOW</u> or you may be staying in State College. [:0]

Yeah, good idea. Last year I stayed about 2 miles away at a brand new Best Western in Milroy. I just booked a room there for $84.35 including tax, with AAA discount. If anyone knows a substantially better deal, let me know![^]

One funny thing- the hot and cold water lines were backwards! Didn't really mean anything once I caught on, but was worth a laugh! The management knew about it, but never said anything... and didn't have an answer as to why[:I]

Anyway, if someone wants, the phone number is 717-667-9595.

We usually stay in Burnham at Holiday Inn/Clarion and now named the Quality Inn but have move to the Hospitality Suites /Best Western in Milroy.
If you guys want a place for a great Amish breakfast, lunch or dinner, try Peachys in Belleville about 5 miles due East of Reedsville. The place is run by Amish and there is a large market next door that sells teriffic Amish food.

For the first time in 20 plus years, we will not be in Reedsville this year.

Ellen got a new job, (thank God), management, but still in the medical field. She is now head nurse on a 30 bed floor, no more doing staff work, which is great. She comes home happy, first time in two years.

They were kind enough to give her time off for Lancaster, but she could not get time off for Reedsville. We will be at York as she will have accumulated vacation time by then.

That's a real bummer, Bill:( I was hoping to see you both there for more than the 30 seconds I saw you at Lancaster...

Guess I'll just have to wait till York[8D]

Actually, Peachey's is WEST of Reedsville, just off Rt 655 on Barrville Rd. If you go west out of Reedsville, you will see a sign for Barrville. If you make this right turn, Peachey's is about 1/8 mile away. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, but note that they close at 7:00 p.m., except on Fridays (seafood on buffet) when they stay open till 8:00. The adjacent grocery store has many interesting items (where else can you get gummy chicken feet?) Their smoked meats are very good, and some folks bring a cooler to stock up.

Another tip. Within walking distance, at the traffic light in "downtown" Reedsville, you will find the Reedsville Seafood shop. They are only open Friday and Saturday (till 2:00). They have excellent seafood chowders which change week to week. They also have a smoker with barbeque sandwiches available for lunch. It's a tiny place with take-out only, but it's a good alternative to the snack bar food at the Youth Park.

Having stayed at all three, I would recommend the Best Western over the Super 8 and Quality Inn. It was just built last year, and it is handy to the swap meet site.

BTW, Dennis, my wife's maternal grandfather was a Lagrua from New Jersey.

Ah, Guido has learned of my devotion to Pennsylvania pork products! Peachey's has a great buffet breakfast at a low price, and they also have a great market with real butchers. I always bring a cooler and load up with scrapple, smoked pork chops, Lebanon bologna, and lots of other stuff I don't tell my doctor about. You can usuaully count on seeing a number of Amish carriages "parked" out front with the horses tethered while the owners shop - but only for things in plain packages. Peachey's accommodates by packing many bulk foods in plastic bags with plain labels. Upstairs is a furniture and craft shop with many hand-made items. It's about 5 minutes from the show grounds. It's a good Saturday morning or afternoon side trip, closed Sunday.

As others have said, the scenery around Reedsville is fabulous and the people are nice. It's not fancy, but it's usually comfortable. There are always lots of vendor tables to look through for all kinds of parts. You might get lucky in finding some special part, as I have on a number of occasions. Reedsville is always a place to take time to chat with other Studebaker folk about all kinds of interests.

I was trying to reply with Jims quote but didn't get it right. Anyway Jim you are absolutely correct Peachy's is West of Reedsville just off Rt 655. Great place for that old fashioned Amish breakfast and good for dinner as well. Thanks for correcting the error.
As for your wife being a LaGrua, that's odd. There are only about 250 LaGruas in the USA. I don't remember any LaGrua relatives in NJ, but she's probably a distant cousin.
As for the guy that suggested a breakfast or lunch get together, I have been advocating this for a long time but it never seems to happen. The next best thing though is the party that Max throws at his shop on Friday evening.

For the past couple of years a small contingent of Truck Farmers has been getting together for dinner on Friday. I expect we will do the same this year.

Since we are getting closer to the meet, ( three weeeks away) its time to bump this one up. We are reserved at the Hospitality Suites, Great Western in Milroy, two miles North of Reedsville.
