  • Hubs and brake drums

I see, from perusing the Chassis Parts Catalog, that the rear 10", unfinned drum/hub assembly used on 59V-63V with 259 was part #1542152.

This was replaced early in the 1963 model run with #1558898, which is listed for 63/64V after serial number 63V-4973.

Does anyone know what the difference was between these two parts? Can they be interchanged on the same axles, or was there a bigger difference than that?

The reason I ask: my car is 63V-24795, and I want to know if I can use the earlier-style parts.

    Clark,

Any 10" rear drum from '54-on will work just fine. That later drum had a different lip arrangement where it engaged the backing plate. I'd say it was an attempt at better keeping out dirt and water to a degree.[^]
