I am restoring a 1960 Lark and was wondering if anyone knows what width of sidewall came with the car. I am also in need of the tire manufacture.

    Thanks for any advise,
    Bob

    According to Coker Tire, 2 1/4 - 2 1/2"

I would think that Studebaker used various tire manufacturers as is done today. My 14,000 mile 1962 Lark had the original Firestones.

Dick is more knowledgable than me ,but my 59vlark is a low milage
(It's milage was less than 40k and I bought it from the secound owner )It has what I believe to be an orginal spare with factory grease mark on the rim. It is a 2" white and is a Us Royal.

I have the original invioce and it came with whites from the factory.
But dick is usaully right .

I was just quoting the Coker web site. I really don't have any other knowledge on this.

Having the original spare is pretty good documentation of the white wall width and tire make. [^]

          Dick and Joe,

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this. My dad purchased the car used in 1961 and tells me that it had Firestone tires on it at that time (I just found this out yesterday). He remembers the white wall being about 2 inches also.
          Thanks again,
          Bob

I just bought a set of four p2057515 with 1.25" whites (the white ends where the 2" would, from a place call jewel tire in Ca. I could not get 2 " in 205's radial but the 2" is available in bias from coker .Can't tell you to much about them because I haven't gotten them yet.The price is scarcy because it is only 69.00 apiece the shipping is 25 a tire

Joe, Please let me know how the car drives with radials. I have read in several turning wheels articles that the widest we should go on Studebaker rims is 195 as the radial tires weaken the old rims that were made for bias ply. If I recall correctly, I think that someone said that Chrysler rims would work--but I can't recall for sure.

I run the Chrysler wheels from the rear wheel drive New Yorkers made in the 80's. They are 6" wide, no clearance problems with disc brake rotors, sheet metal or any suspention components.
