  • New Gaskets/Seal materiel?

If I recall correctly...and please let me know if I'm wrong...
there have been comments here about the lack of modern-type gaskets and seals made for the Studebaker V-8s.

The other day at work we had a visitor who said he worked for a nearby company that makes custom gaskets and they could make anything...if they can't locally, they have a division back East that could.

That got me wondering...since my R-1 needs new gaskets, I was thinking about having them make them out of better materiel.
If there is a tooling fee involved, I could recoop my investment by selling sets through Turning Wheels & Avanti.

    1. What would you recommend the materiel be?

    2. It this plan workable or am I nuts?

We already have a rubber like neoprene, nitril or whatever valve cover gasket, both early and late. What we do not have, is what was being discussed, a one piece front and rear arch, left and right side oil pan gasket for all V-8's! very much like a late Ford V-8 pan gasket.

Pontiac's were made with a rope type rear main seal & there is a neoprene seal available for them. How about a neoprene rear main seal for the Stude too?

With that ancient old model "A" rope seal, Pontiacs REALLY needed help!

I really don't think we have a big problem with our "modern" Brummer oil seal, it is/was one of the best in the industry! It is the oil pan gasket that has in my experience, always been the one that seems to get improperly installed, and leaks a lot.

Then on the high mileage engines you get the timing cover "seal" (felt ring) leaks, a professional not backyard, replacement modern seal would be great for that too.
