  • Is this a one, oneandahalf, or two ton... PICS!

What is this thing? It looks a heck of a lot bigger than the average suburban pickup. Also, it looks like there's a two-speed rear? Is it a one, two, two-and-a-half ton[?] So... what is a 2R C2[?]

With a GVW of 14,000 lbs., it is a 1 1/2 ton rating (2 ton ratings started at 16K I believe) so will be a model 2R16 I would guess. A nice rig for someone with space/interest in the bigger Stude Trucks. [8D][^]

PS - 2R-C2 is just the body tag (2R truck model with a standard cab) I can make out a "55" on the serial plate, so it is a 155" wheelbase as well.

Thanks for the quick answer, Mark. I thought I was the only insomniac tonight (LOL). Guess not.

Yes, I do have the space. My worry about this is the cost of registering, etc...

It should not cost any more than a regular car or a light truck. You are not registering it commercially, so there are no extra charges and safety inspections to ante up for. My 2-ton costs me the same as it does for any of my other vehicles.

Craig, all trucks are registered as commercial vehicles in California. They are charged by weight. Some, are required to have an operator's number stencled on the side and are subject to inspections, special levies, etc... This is done by type and weight.

As to Pickups, one can license them as an automobile in CA. However, if one does, then you can't even carry a lunch box in the bed.

My question about this vehicle is weather it can be registered as a regular light truck. If it's only a ton-and-a-half, that just might be possible. If it's a two-ton... Maaaaybe... not.[V] There's just two days left on bidding and I want to know before bidding on it.

Clunk....you also have to consider that it is also a vehicle, whether
truck or car, that is over 25 years old and the fees are certainly going
to be a Whole lot less than if it was a truck right off the lot or 3
years old, as the orignal value has long since vanished. When I had
my '85 F150 it was licensed as a car, but never had any issues with
hauling stuff in the back....I guess the "Chippers" or the local "TJ
taxi's" weren't looking for me. I believe, now, all trucks in CA have
to be commerical, as a way to make extra DMV $$$$'s.

                      Hey Ron,
Buy it. Then register it in Oregon. You can use my address. My 1987 Chevy one ton crew cab costs me $56.00 in registration fees and that's for two years.
When I moved from So Calif five years ago it was costing me over $300.00 a year!

If you could translate the serial number from the plate on photo # 3, I could tell you the model year built. I simply can not see all the digits from where I sit.

Looks to be a rust free example.
