  • Tom Bonsall

Just received word that automotive historian and friend Tom Bonsall passed away of complications due to two strokes. He was 61 years young. Tom is best known to we Studebaker folk for his books 'Avanti' and 'More Than They Promised: The Studebaker Story'. Over the years, Tom won many automotive awards for his thorough books on many of the famous automotive marques. Tom resided in Baltimore City for more than 23 years.

Very sorry to hear that... I bought his "More than they promised" book last year and really enjoyed it.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Tom. Have owned both of his Studebaker Books for several years and both are both worthy of being in every Studebaker owners memrobilia collection. He will be missed.

I had sent $80.00 for a book that was coming out written by Bonsall that was supposed to be autographed & leather bound. Never got the book, only the run around by the then publisher & Bonsall himself. This was probably 15 years ago, so whenever I saw a book by him, I wouldn't even bother to look at it, no matter how great reviews were. I'm sorry for his passing, as I would anyone else, but not for his business sense.

Sorry to read of this loss to the automotive world. I guess that it is a sign of getting older when I read of more people younger than me, like Tom, than older than me, dying.
