I'm planning on driving my '63 Avanti R2 there and back home to California. I've already made reservations with the Avanti group staying at the Jamison Inn a few miles from the Holiday Inn City Center. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of Studebakers, and taking in all the events and local sights. should be fun!

Small suggestion, but in the text, "renounded" should be "reknowned".

I've already told the family that SB is our family vacation next year! We'll be there with our R1 Skytop. Sure would like to see some other Skytops there (are you there, Paul Warta??!!)

Twenty lashes for me with the rusted rear section of a Lark fender, it's "renowned" NOT "reknowned" as I pointed out in error last post!

Diane Glew of the Meet Committe, called me Friday evening, regarding the results of the judging in Division 8 and Division 9 at the Omaha Meet, She was calling me more specifically about Division 8 because my Lark was judged in Division 8. She said that the meet/judging committee has been reviewing the judging sheets and have noticed some problems and are going to be adjusting some of the final points (Up not Down) prior to the TW issue reporting the Meet. My interpretation of her comments were, that many of the cars in the custom and modified divisions were incorrectly and/or to harshly judged and those that recieve adjusted points will be notified of the corrections, she did say that she had personally looked at my car during or after the meet and after reviewing my judging sheet, she feels that my car did not deserve the deduction of 28 points for the exterior body, paint and wheels, nor should it have recieved any originality deductions. But Carl will be the one to make the final determination as to what and how many points will be adjusted.
During our conversation, I mentioned several of the problems, concerns, ideas, and suggestions that we discussed on the Omaha Meet Forum after the meet. She asked me if I might be interested in some way, working with or helping the committe with some of the ideas and changes, which I agreed to do, if contacted. It is also my understanding that the custom and modified divisions will not necassarily recieve deductions right off the top prior to judging but instead the originallity portion of the judging sheet will be replaced with items more related to a custom or modified car, like quality of workmanship etc. but exactly what those items are, has not been decided. I talked with her for over an hour I hopefully believe from what I heard that we might be pleased with at least some of the changes that are going to occur, it sounded to me as though they are listening to the membership and are attempting to resolve some of the problems. Plus I think they are going to attempt to do some advance training for meet judges. I hope my optimism is justified. We shall see. :)

Brad - As I stated in my prevoius post, the suggestions on the Omaha Meet Fourm are some of the suggestions I spoke to Diane Glew about. BTW I suggested that she visit the site to get a better idea as to the feelings of some of the membership and see more of the ideas and suggestions that have been posted.

Thanks for whatever is being done. I was surprised that SB judging info was posted with no changes after all of the invited input. I'll be in display only, but want this equitable for all. The fun is driving and learning about Studes....BRAD

Blissfully, I won't worry about ANY of the folderal of this contentious consideration.[:I] Display only and ENJOY!

I was at an estate sale Saturday. The departed had been a car guy and along with his tools and lotsa car parts stood a table full of gleaming trophies. No one in his family wanted them and I'd be willing to bet as they cleared the tables of what was left when the sale ended that afternoon, not one trophy had found a new home!
I guess I shoulda bought some, had new tags engraved to show that I'd taken first and people choice with my trusty ol' Transtar thru the years. Then they could have claimed valuable shelf space here in the office until it's time for some stranger to pick thru my rusty wrenches and snicker at the thought that any weirdo would gather so DAMNED many Stude parts![xx(]

Do me a favour Biggsie, if you croak before I do, leave me the entire contents of your shop and parts collection. I'll even make up a memorial case for your trophies.:D

It pays to talk to your family... before it's too late. Find out who wants all the stuff. If the family doesn't, leave it to someone who does! Wills, hasn't anyone thought of a will. And NO you don't have to leave everything to family. You can leave it to people who will APPRECIATE it. I probably won't leave my cars to my children. Knowing my son, the cars will go straight to a salvage yard.

Dave, love the hedz meeting!:D:D:D(LMAO) Reminds me of more than one club meeting I've been to.

It is my understanding that Carl Thoms was aware of the judging problems in Omaha and always intended to revise the procedures for South Bend. However, he had a death in the immediate family and has had to devote time to administering the estate. The judging rules were probably posted by the SB folks in an effort to get ahead of the power curve without realizing that they were gonna be changed. Sometimes you can be too efficient.

Thank you for the heads up!
I do hope that the SDC and the AOAI have worked out some extra parking for the host hotel. The Holiday Inn City Center multi level indoor parking is an awful place for a manual trans Studebaker, or a manual steer Studebaker. Heaven help you if you are in a Ccab. Just because it is closest to the SNM doesn't make it the ideal location. It really does remind me a LOT of the Adam's Mark in Charlotte....

Well ya got to take this judging with a grain of salt....I lost 45 points from one year to the Omaha meet ...got docked 12 more points for my chrome and I had my bumpers rechromed this year....go figure. But we go for the fun not so much for the judging....good thing I figure.

"Display" is more comfortable and cheaper...no lost points here unless someone points at your car and then you gain a point. Like all hobbys everyone does it differently. Judging is a struggle for the judges and the one being judged. The fun is "display"ing and driving....BRAD
