  • aluminum cam gear

I previously posted for an engine noise, but am opening a new topic so it won't get lost.

I took the intake and valley cover off, and found nothing wrong.
Took the timing cover off (not easy with A/C and P/S) and found the crankshaft gear had about 3 broken teeth. The cam gear (Aluminum billit) teeth were very scored as well as the crank gear teeth. This gear set has been in the engine about three years and about 14000 miles.
Has anyone run into this problem?
    Thanks,

Rich - I have never had one do that and I would not expect such a failure in so few miles if everything was working as it should. Check to see if the oil pressure relief valve is clean and functioning (see manual for description). Oil from this valve lubricates the timing gears.

Also, you need to be sure that the thrust on the cam and the crank are within specs. Too much end play in the crank will cause this kind of interference.
