Hello all,
My brother jsut bought a '47 M series 1/2 ton-several questions have come up

1) What color is the steering wheel and is there a deluxe wheel with horn ring?

2) What color are the wheels/pin stripes?

3) The truck has o/d and a 4:82 rear end. What rear end will swap for a lower ratio for better driving?

Thanks for your help, looking forward to seeing everyone in Lancaster!

You've probably already figured this out, but the 4.82 with OD converts to 3.37. If that has a 170 engine you don't want much lower ratio than that.

Original steering wheel and interior trim were all tan. See current paint code matches here: http://www.studegarage.com/truckpaint.htm

Wheel stripes were Tusk Ivory for most wheels. Check your body color codes on the same page above. Wheels were various colors depending on body color. A good current wheel stripe color match is "1 Shot" Ivory. For details on stripe dimensions, see this page: http://www.studegarage.com/bitbybit.htm

My M5 has the 4.82 rear with overdrive. With 6.50-16 tires, it will go 65 mph at 2500-2700 rpm. The suspension is not happy above 70 mph and the steering gets very busy. M5's were made to take in the scenery, but 60-65 mph on level ground and modest hills is practical, though noisy.

Thanks, Gary,

I'll pass that on to my brother -his M5 is en route from Harrisburg, PA. Its green , but the wheels are currently tan. I'd guess the wheels should be green with the ivory stripe.

If you're going to Lancaster, look forward to meeting you, I'll be driving from Richmond, VA in a black '64 Avanti with Roger Hill
