On a 61 Lark 6cyl, with automatic, what is the correct mixture screw setting on the carb? ie how many turns out from all the way in? Thanks

I have always just turned them all the in then backed them off 1 1/2 turns. I then start the car and fine tune the adjustment to the engine's smoothest idle. The car should be warmed up for best results.

A coupla ways -

Verify the ignition timing and idle speed are correct.

Engine hot/running temperature, in gear with automatic trans., (block tires!).
Turn the screw in until the engine starts to run rough...back it out until the idle smoothes. Do this two or three times.

This MAY change the idle speed. If so, return the idle speed to where it is supposed to be and redo the above instructions.

Another way -

Verify the ignition timing and idle speed are correct.

Install a "non-dampened" vacuum gauge/gage onto the carburetor.
Warm the engine to operating temp., put it in gear and alter the mixture (curb idle) screw and (idle speed) as required, to aquire the highest vacuum reading.

All ignition vacuum and mech. advance are to remain connected.

If you have two carburetors....the same applies...just go back and forth two or three times.
