Bugsport is a really neat comic strip penned by Ted Bastian. It's about a small town in Maine that's populated by... aliens!
The hilarious antics of the locals and new residents, the Bastians, take place in the bucolic Maine seaport of, where else, Bugsport!
All of the Aliens drive/fly Studebaker UFOs. Ted's dad even got involved with the airborne antics with his Hawk.
I can't think of a more appropriate comic strip for Turning Wheels than this one.

Aliens are cool!

Now, that's just the petition. Here's the link to Bugsport:

If you've never seen it, I suggest starting at the beginning. Enjoy!

I think this series is great. Great artwork and theme and seemingly unbiased enough to not irritate all but maybe any aliens that are currently on earth that are avid readers of Turning Wheels. That said, since the emerging groundswell of endorsement is FROM the internet, why not officially embrace it ON the internet?
I'd rather see the pages of Turning Wheels devoted to the substantive stuff we've come to expect there, rather than silliness.
Put a link from the SDC website to the Bugsport site, but don't fill up TW pages with it.
There have been cartoonists works featured in long ago TWs, but that was a time when TW was the ONLY way to share such fluff. I'm sure I'm going against the grain on this, but let's be objective and not go with a gut response.
In addition, it's much more impressive IN COLOR and FILLING your monitor screen as opposed to black & white drawing reduced enough to all fit on one or two pages.
Bugsport - one more reason to go to the SDC website and enjoy![^]

Me too...very creative...great art work! I would guess that the SDC would have to pay the author to publish the work in TW. If so, I would personally rather see the funds go toward a judging standards guide or judge training (if, in fact, there are "extra" funds).

Yeah Mr. Biggs,
I vote for a link from SDC to their website, so that any that want to keep up with it can. It is a well done cartoon, but I'd like to keep Turning Wheels a pub on Studebaker salient, substantive stuff (my, an alliteration).

Save the budget for more color pics of real reader rides(another one).

FYI: There has been a link to Bugsport on the SDC website since March, 2005 when I interviewed Ted and posted this article to the Studebaker News page:

http://www.studebakerdriversclub.com/sn_bugsport.asp

Admittedly, the link is now somewhat buried in the articles list so I've added a permanent link on the "Valuable Links" page as well.

I make a motion that Bob Shaw's contract be renewed.[^]

I agree, it would be great if more members had the opportunity to enjoy Ted Bastien's work. BUGSPORT has been mentioned in TURNING WHEELS and Ted is probably happy doing what he's doing on his own venue. BUGSPORT is not the only thing on his site.

Maybe Ted could contribute an article to TURNING WHEELS to reiterate his position but, those who want to see BUGSPORT will need to get a computer or a friend who has one.

I enjoy it. Thanks, Ted.
